#Internetix 09 — Chris Burdick — Greg Lock’s Satellite Latency Session — iDirect:

Greg Lock’s session at Internetix 09 dealt with reducing satellite latency from 600ms to 130ms.
This is achieved by using a network of NON-geostationery satellites in orbit very much closer to earth than geostationery satellites.
Basically, because they’re closer, it takes way less time for information to travel to and fro.
More than that, the intelligent network and tracking system has multiple redundancy built in, so that the failure of one of the satellites doesn’t mean communication downtime.
Chris chatted about his company — iDirect — as part of Greg’s talk. iDirect is the force behind this new way of using satellites for tele- and other communication.Made live at Internetix 09 using ArtRage 2.5 on my Rectron-sponsored Asus R1E tablet pc.
